Philadephia lyricist Cassidy here talks to Vlad about the phenomenon of ghostwriting in the rap scene and being a ghostwriter for major artists himself. Cassidy is a firm believer that any MC with a ghostwriter cannot be considered an all time great. “Any rapper with a ghostwriter cannot be in a top 5 or 10 list,” he says. “If you’re a rapper you’re supposed to be able to rap.” Watch above.

Music is music regardless of how it's made or recorded. Salty ass rappers mad at other rappers for making quality music and making millions while they stuck on making shitty music no one can relate to.
It's a tricky situation with Drake because he's ghost written for other artists before too. He came into the game as a songwriter. It's hard because clearly he can write and come up with shit but he's also humble enough to ask for help. Maybe if he was open about it before getting exposed it would've been different.
When you're a rock artist, country artist, or an R&B artist, you don't need to write your own lyrics. If you do, that is just something we will give you immense credit for, but you don't need to write your own lyrics.
When it involves Hip-Hop music, this goes in reverse. When you write impeccably, we should give you immense credit for this ability. If you don't write your own lyrics, there's no way that you should ever receive accolades as a lyricist.
You may deliver the lyrics impeccably, and you may have incredible stage presence, but this doesn't supersede the reality of not writing your own lyrics. This makes you a good or great entertainer, but it doesn't make you a lyrical beast. Because you don't write all of your lyrics, I cannot see any reason for this person to find a spot in the highly acclaimed 'Top MC' list.
