New York’s rap scene has undergone a facelift over the past few years. Gone are the days of a strictly rugged appeal, having been replaced with aesthetics that reach far outside of the city. Though the grittiness remains on full tilt in certain pockets, counterculture is still very prevalent. It is from this amalgamation that an artist such as Tally Bands is spawned.
Hailing from the notorious Soundview & Throggs Neck neighborhoods of the Bronx, Tally’s musical sonics are heavy on the melodic side of things but with a closer listen it becomes clear that dark undertones are a consistent theme. Newly signed with The Orchard / Sony Music’s recently launched Urban Division, Tally Bands is ready to kick things into another gear. Today, he gives Elevator Mag the green-light to premiere his official debut single “How I Ain’t Die.” Produced by BlackMayo, the track finds Tally lamenting about the aftermath of lost love and almost going off of the deep end.
