MC Eiht on West Coast Artists Losing their Identity Trying to Following Trends

It’s been ten years since MC Eiht has dropped a solo album, and the West Coast legend blessed fans with the release of Which Way Iz West in June. The album features collaborations with the likes of Kurupt, Bumpy Knuckles, B-Real, Xzibit, Dub C, BIg Mike, and many more, and MC Eiht spoke about his aim for the album during a recent interview with VladTV.

Eiht explained that he is trying to preserve the West Coast sound and the foundation for the movement with his new project, as he added that a lot of West Coast artists were following trends and losing their identity in recent years. To hear more of what he had to say, including why he got DJ Premier to produce the album, hit the above clip.

I agree with this 100%, Today's Hip Hop and R&B lacks creativity and diversity. I understand music evolves but it does get very underwhelming that you would hear a rapper from Philly, Las Vegas, Milwaukee and they all sound like they from the Chicago or the south.

We need diversity in Hip-Hop again. Trap, Boom-Bap, and G-Funk. More collabs with rappers from different regions.
